Is Making Money On eBay Dead?

Since eBay banned the sale of digital products in their auctions, many marketers have abandoned eBay as a source of income. Other factors to this abandoning of eBay include some policy and fee changes which were heavily opposed. However, those willing to stick with eBay are finding that it is still quite possible to make money on eBay.

Smart sellers found that while the direct sale of digital products was no longer possible, there is a way to work around it. What they did was to put one or more digital products on a CD or DVD and physically ship it out to customers. Doing so meant that not only could they continue to sell the products that they wanted to, but also that they could sell them for more, on the basis that physical products are perceived to be of greater value than digital ones.

To save time from having to package, label, and ship every CD or DVD you sell, the best thing to do is to use a fulfillment company. These companies will basically package your CD or DVD up with a cover that you provide, and they’ll ship it out to your customers for a flat fee. The extra cost that using a fulfillment company costs can be covered by selling each product for an extra few dollars.

Turning digital products into physical ones also allows you to include various bonuses and upsells on the discs that you ship out. Just think how much more a trust a customer will have in you when they receive their purchase and find that you have included a previously unannounced bonus with it. They will then be much more likely to follow the links through to your website or squeeze page that you have included and will likely to turn into a long term buying customer.

Another way of making money on eBay is to enter the dropshipping business. Instead of keeping stock or selling something that you own, doing dropshipping will allow you to sell products which belong to someone else, kind of like affiliate marketing. It can be tricky to find a reliable dropshipping company, but once you do, the selling process is easy. You simply list one of the dropshipper’s products on eBay and, when it sells, submit an order to the dropshipper for that product, providing them with the customers details as you do so. The great thing about this business model is that it doesn’t cost you any money out of your pocket. You only pay the dropshipping company’s cut out of the proceeds of the sale.

You can virtually sell anything through a dropshipping company on eBay. You’ll find companies that sell small items like cell phone accessories, all the way up to large items such as pool tables. Conduct a little research before you choose your products to sell though, and try to find ones that offer both good profit margins and low competition (i.e. with not many competing eBay sellers). No matter what you choose to sell, make sure you do the necessary research in order to find a reliable company to work with.
